I’ve had a look through posts on the forum and couldn’t find any posts relating to changing the gold penalty, all I found was a mention in the EE server post about ‘some players wanting a harder server’, but with no mention of the gold thing. Can someone link me to a post discussing this topic please if there is one? I’ve returned after a couple years break so I may have missed this topic being discussed.
Before EE, Chree would always give players a say in the changes he was thinking of making. That gave players a sense of ownership and involvement with the server, it was fair. This decision seems to have been made because it’s what ‘you’ want. If its openly discussed and there's a consensus among players then fair enough.

Hello Devs and DMs,
Im very sorry to read that gold loss on death is no longer capped. The reason being gold means nothing is baffling to me.
I smash and bash to get items and make gold to buy the things I like. I pay taxes and travel fees with it. So gold means the world already.
To get lots of gold, I try to fight in high risk, high reward places. To do so I think and plan my toons carefully, sprouting new ideas and playstyles.
Loosing 40k on death for a rich toon is a severe penalty already. Now it is a GARGANTUAN penalty, for trying risky things and getting creative.
I wont stop playing, but I am very disappointed at this change.
Gold suddenly means a lot less if you can loose tons of it after hours of hard work...
:-(

I wonder how the 10% figure was chosen? As some basic math in my head says that on a typical play session where you know your limits and didnt play the very hardest maps but farmed reasonable maps for your build and gear for a few hours but you will die a few times anyhow. Say 4 times you die before you quit playing an area after 4 hours. So you started the day with modest farmer on 10 million gp Death 1: now worth 9 million Death 2: now worth 8.1 million Death 3: now worth 7.2 million Death 4: now worth 6.4 million Net loss = 3.6 million gp So then its not really 10% loss but more like cumulitive loss of 10% + 9% + 8% + 7% = 34% loss. So your telling me that in that play session of 4 hours i am supposed to make more than 3.6 million gp to cover the deaths and then any extra is my profit ? Because if the loss is more than the income soon i wont be able to afford the boatman or respawns. Are we really going to be finding so many items to sell to cover that death cost and make a profit ? In the end of the day the drop ratio has to cover the cost of farming. I didnt even put in the long term farmer with loads of gold as its clearly impossible to be playing on a long term farmer and get large sum of cash as the drops wont cover the death loss. It will only work if you are so organised that you hire helpers to come raise you. I remember way back on 3t people would shout when dead and give higher prices to come raise me and there could be a bidding war. It was sort of fun but i think it will get old fast waiting on other peoples to come help you or disrupting your game all the time to act as a rescuer. This really just created a dependency on the successful rich farmers to work together or to be online to help all the time. That seems to be the real mechanic at play now. Maybe i should be planning a new build that specialises in doing rescues and just makes all their money that way.

Update v005p Status : TEST-the player shop ! I added a new area accessible from Wheaton, Arakan, Fer, Harata, Isle of Secrets. There is a sign in the shop to explain how it works. -respawn gold penalty cap removed : WARNING, the gold penalty of respawns after lvl 41 (820001xp or more) will not be capped to 40k anymore.-epic monk items : Taroc created some new items. You can find them on the high-tier shelves of Ten Dragons' shop. -trap kits now take 1x1 inventory space instead of 2x2. -lesser mind blank was missing from new cleric domain Knowledge at lvl 5 (it was instead improved invisibility). -fixed some typos Please test this update on the test server. Especially the player shop. Thank you ! In case anyone misses it, Findell has edited his initial post.

Is this a whole DM vs the player situation? What are the decisions being based on? Who's making the decisions? This was discussed on the DM forums based on server logs of player wealth. Re: DM vs players, DMs are players too, this would affect our characters too. At the time the log was reviewed my character was at number 12 on the list of most wealthiest. The uncapped 10% was a proposal put forward by Findell and not set as concrete. Currently the death tax is being reviewed based on the feedback from this thread.

from a curiousity point of view it would be nice if there was a visible list of the top 10-20 wealthiest toons

Thanks for that, taroc and I'm sure you know it but just in case you didn't, I wasn't trying to attack you or the DM team. 😉 Also, thanks DM team for listening to the players feedback on this issue and for changing it back. Anyone that has ideas for gold sink should speak up. There are lots of new players that have come from other servers so surely they will have ideas.
