For grub pits one of the biggest worries are the clerics because they have this spell resistance thing which makes them immune to most spells you cast at them. I've even used mords on one and my spells still didn't work, and I've also used Nature's Balance - twice - on one and it still was fine in my storm of vengeance.
So to dealt with these clerics I'll show you the strategy I use. I think it would require only a picture and explanation. Druids and Clerics can do this too with storm of vengeance and stonehold.
What I like to do is use a drone or black blade of disaster or other summon to lure the enemies to the side while in sanctuary, and then in the hallways on the sides use my spells. This is because the clerics usually do not get past the doors on the sides when you block and funnel the enemies. You can then cast spells in relative safety, and deal with the clerics as you see fit. Usually I use my summon 9's or drones to destroy them when all the other enemies are gone. Note: The air elementals damage is really low against the clerics? Possible enhancement to that elemental requested.

Yeah equipment definitely helps here for melee damage reduction and discipline, not only for actually slaying the monsters but also for resting. The resting is the major problem for casters solo in grubs, due to two manonera avengers spawning at a higher rate when compared to one spawning in shrine.
Also, there is a map spawn on you at random times too.
Rest spawn is also a problem for casters soloing in darkmoor, which was made a lot tougher with the darkmoor rest spawn change. Primary reasons being as a caster when resting you are completely unbuffed, so its your equipment and remaining spells vs the rest spawn if it comes. Due to that it's probably best to have melee dr equipment, discipline, max dc equipment, finale ammy, rest widget, and spells remaining to deal with the rest spawn problem. The funneling strategy works in a variety of ways, but I still think the middle spot is the best way to funnel due to the tendency of clerics to stand there and not get near the player - the clerics being the major problem for casters. Another strategy that works is sanct and wail/boom, but again the problem is resting, which it would probably be good to have equipment and widget for. So yeah casters can play and farm here, but due to the resting it's probably best in a group if you don't have the right equipment just like in darkmoor. With the right equipment to deal with the rest, it's definitely doable. Given that casters can farm elsewhere with less equipment and have free rests in other spawn areas its probably better to go there as a caster, but equipment and saving spells can overcome this problem in grubs. Much harder to overcome this problem in darkmoor in my experience .
Interesting to note that with elemental form and a free rest chance bonus, druids have a slighter better chance of overcoming the rest in grubs .
