This is a thread for general tips and tricks. I'll start the ball rolling with things that are good to carry and that many of my characters will/have use(d) at some point.
Clarity pots - Unless you are mind immune, or can cast your own mind immunity (and even if you can) you should always have a at least a small stock of these.
Rod of shadow - casts per use shadow shield, its worth getting Isle of Storms done just for access for this never mind all the other nifty stuff you can get there. A must have for a melee attempting to solo beholders.
FoM sling - to get pre epic you have to have some pull with the archers guild but once you get to harata you have no excuse, excellent in many many areas and often one of the first things I'll buy in Harata if I intend to spend any time farming cliffies. Almost all of my lvl 40s carry a few of these.
Ring of Blinking - sold at Arakan mage shop, per use ethereal, usable from around lvl 10.
Smoke bombs - sold at 10ds, throwable grenadier type item that produces a short darkness effect. Excellent for many things for any lvl.
Animal Empathy ring(s) - Again, sold at Arakan, if you have at least 1 point in AE two of these rings will take you up to 24, enough to have a fair shot at Emping varuls and anything lower then that (bears, nightstalkers etc)
Minor ring of Improved Invis - Sold at ios, per charge ii cast at a fairly cheap rate.
Scrolls of restore - sold at insanely cheap rates at the desert tribe shop near cadish, if you are farming there, save your cash and buy these as they are even cheaper then the lesser restore pots.
All of the per day stuff sold at the Pureblood shops, both the smith and the shaman sell some truly excellent and useful per day buff items, from the bear totem to the warpipes to the axe with deathward.
